Just curious, what was meant in the poll by "team defense lacking"?
I went all of the above like most people, but I think the CB situation is the biggest problem and specifically Arreaga. I'm 50/50 on him right now as to if he's going to work out or not. On talent, I think he's fantastic; maybe even better than Marshall. However, he looks very unorganized with Kim and SAS and that's killing us right now. What I don't know is if it's a language/communication problem or if he's the second coming of Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, hence the 50/50 take.
It's not about attacking players like Ruidiaz or Morris tracking back to help on defense as Airkeeper mentioned. They do a pretty good job of that.
I think it's more of a "what kind of team defensive concept/tactics are the Sounders utilizing? Is it working for them or not?" Lately when I've watched the games, opponents at times just go right through the midfield third of the field without being hampered. Are players missing assignments? Are they out of position? I see Lodeiro constantly pressuring the ball in the opponent's defensive third, but (at times) other players aren't doing the same. OTOH, opponents seem to bottle up our attack on the wings effectively to the point we have to recycle the ball back through the defense and often back to Frei in order to open up space on the opposite wing.
In other words, the back five (defenders and keeper) are not the only ones responsible and yet, easy goals seem to be happening that shouldn't even become opportunities if they were nipped in the bud further up the field.
Again, this might just come down to not having the Honey Badger back there to disrupt the attack. I don't know. As Airkeeper said, the problem is complex and perhaps can't be narrowed down easily.
