Again, the point was to make a Technical and Skillset comparison. When you look at what he's done from a measurable standpoint (numbers that compare to Nico, not VRod) I understand that it is easy to look at the opportunity lost and forget that this is a 27 year old, in his prime, international that already knows the league, travel and the whole 9. Were we to go and get another DP/Young DP/U22, when would we actually get any output from them? Think about Chu, when is he even going to break into the 11? Is he ever going to even produce like JMo before the second ACL tear? Can he do more than just "run north and south" (hmmmm sounds familiar)?

I dont know, I'm struggling to see any downside from this signing at all. For me, it's a DP that "could" be bought down, that is going to produce and is a possible heir to Nico...Last year, all we wanted was some that could play in Nico's hole, now we have one and everyone is going "but but but...". Myabe I'm the one with the Rose (Claret? lol) Colored Glasses on.

One key point of clarification is Rusnak can't be bought down. With him and Ruidiaz now resigned we literally cannot sign another two U22s until 2024 when Lodeiro's contract expires (unless we bought one of them out).

Bruin, A. Roldan, and Montero have re-signed. I think that means the band is pretty much back together, except for Delem, Benezet, and O'Neill. Rusnak seems like a replacement for Benezet so all we really need is a center back.

I was very disappointed that Jordy Delem wasn't brought back. While not a starter, Jordy was often the first sub Schmetzer would put in. I hope he finds a club where he can make a difference.

A team simply taking his contract would have been nice so this is a win. I know it's unlikely but freeing up that money and possibly selling an INT slot would be enough to bring back Yedlin who I think would be a tremendous signing, plus ex-Sounders is Garth's specialty.

Well damn! BON VOYAGE, BRAD! Seriously though, I wish him well but byeeee. With his injury history plus that INT slot he takes up and the fact Medranda basically earned the starting role over him added to the fact it is to an Eastern Conference team, this would almost be as good a trade as when we traded and then got back Neagle. Hell, just Smith for $660 Garber bucks alone is a good move.

I think that the Sounders do have to move Nouhou this window though...He showed last season that he's a better CB than LB, and he's showing out right now in AFCON. Strike while the money is going to be hottest...

Re: Nouhou - I was 100% behind that until yesterday. With Smith gone we no longer have a surplus of LBs and I'm not convinced of Medranda as an every match starter. I will also say that Nouhou provides solid tactical flexibility. If we are trying to preserve a win or get hit with injuries up front, being able to switch to 3atb with Nouhou at LCB and Medranda at LWB is pretty good, even it's not plan A.

Certainly if a team comes in and offers ~$5M+ I'm selling in a heartbeat, but again, I think selling Smith just made Nouhou a lot more important to the club than he was a couple days ago.

As an aside, I can't believe DC gave $660k GAM for Smith. We had no leverage there as we had a surplus of LBs, and Smith was obviously the one we'd most like to move. Unless there was actually another club bidding for him (which I also would have found shocking), then Garth fleeced them big time on this one. I usually hate on Lagerway but I should say he's largely done a good job with acquisitions and transfers within MLS and this is another example of that.
