As for the game, I liked a lot of what I saw. Of course we scored 4 goals and got a clean sheet so everyone is happy.
Early on Colorado played a high line and pressed but the Sounders, unlike so often in the past, handled the pressure very well and repeatedly possessed their way up the field. It seemed we didn't have many unforced errors with the ball - not the frequent giveaways that plagued us so often last year.
Also rather than sit back and absorb the attack, the Sounders applied pressure themselves and often won the ball back at least at mid field and usually higher. Maybe it was because the opponents were the Rapids, but i liked it.
It also seemed that the attack was more varied. Yes balls were sent in from the wings but it seemed we found a way forward through the middle way more than in the past. The movement of the attacking players was varied and less predictable. I liked the mix of building an attack connecting the dots but also sending the longer through balls and ball over the top to skip the mid field.
So it was only one game and it was against a team that is still trying to learn each other's names but very encouraging.
I also liked the new guy. Heber is certainly no hold up beast receiving clearances and letting the team come forward but his other duties as a forward were well performed. He made good runs, often seemed to be in the right place at the right time and combined well with teammates.
Very happy for our goal scorers. Not the cleanest finishing but many chances created, many shots taken instead of passing around the perimeter. We deserved those goals from sending the ball in the box, letting CO make mistakes and pouncing on rebounds and deflections
I hope this isn't the high point of the season.
