Note: I read that the actual kickoff is 1:25, but the listed time I saw is 1:00 so went with that.
If I channel my inner-Oshan, this is a battle of two teams that are tied for second and points and first in GD. Of course, that leaves out the key point that Seattle has played one more league game and lost.
LAFC has played four total matches. They're coming off a midweek 2-1 loss in CCL, although that was the second leg of a series where they won the first 3-0. That is to say, it's a loss on paper but they're feeling alright.
Despite LAFC firing on all cylinders, it's worth noting that Seattle has four wins and two draws from the last six against LAFC in Seattle. Take what you will from that streak, but they can be had.
On paper LAFC seems worse this season but that's not showing in the results. They lost their primary goalscorer from last season in Chicho Arango, however the goals have been replaced by a combination of Denis Bouanga and Kwadwo Opoku. While both are far from household names, they move around all over the pitch and in a small sample set they're wreaking havoc on opposing teams. Also Carlos Vela is still pretty damn good despite the fact that he's lost a step.
Interesting to note that LAFC beat us in the signing of Aaron Long but he's barely played; largely the spot has gone to 38y/o legend Giorgio Chiellini. Chiellini was the one CB to start and play all 90 at the midweek, so this might finally be Long's chance to start alongside Jesus Murillo.
On Seattle's side, we were pretty punchless last week, albeit on the road against a good Cincinnati team. This is probably an important game for the team's mentality - win this and it's easy to write off the Cincy game. If we lose here, then the narrative shifts to Seattle is able to bully weak teams but can't hang with the best.
Couldn't find a lineup prediction at time at posting but afaik Seattle has everyone available except for Heber. I'd expect no changes from last week though on a personal level, I'd love to see Arreaga get in just once more against Vela for old time's sake (this is absolutely not going to happen). On the LAFC side, they've been doing some light rotations match over match but things seem to be lining up to us getting their best XI or at least very close to it.
Prediction: Maybe because I'm feeling it going into the weekend but I'm going 2-0 for Seattle. In MLS, travel and match congestion seems to play a big role. Seattle has had all week to prepare and Ruidiaz should be ready to start. We haven't lost to LAFC in Seattle since their inaugural match in 2018.
