During the pre-game show the question was asked about the Sounders "Is it time to panic?" My thought was "There is only panic when there is hope. So, no panic"
Then I second guessed myself thinking that we're in the third place, have conceded fewer goals than anyone else and a draw on the road to Minn would normally be considered a decent result, not the disappointing result we all felt.
But I came back to my senses and considered that it is not the poor results but the poor play that is so dispiriting.
We won this one but were outplayed again. I'm glad for the W but have little hope for the prospects of this team.
When you're a broke, mid-table, punching-above-your-weight team like Bolton, that kind of game is exhilarating. Circumstances mean you're never going to see your team lift the title or the Champions League, and probably never even the FA Cup, so you take your joy where you can. Stealing three points from another mid-table side has therefore been burned into my memory for almost 20 years.
I can't find the same joy in the same kind of performance and result from the Sounders last night. There's just no reason, other than criminal mismanagement and underinvestment, that the Sounders should be delighting in stealing three points from freakin' Austin. It's just this pitifully sad reminder that we're miles away from what we used to be, and light years away from what we could and should have been.
