Well, I was one off...it was not a 3-1 comeback but 2-1. We will take it. FINALLY the Sounders have two consecutive league wins this season!
MotM was Rusnak, his brace from the spot and other contributions not withstanding. But Rothrock provided the spark we needed; on the other hand, PDLV coming on for Chu had the opposite effect--I get that we need to get the young DP minutes, but there was definitely a dip in the attack (at least for a while). I never heard why A.Roldan had to come off at half but hope it is not related to his concussion.
After the power issues, I was hoping there wouldn't be another VAR situation because only the sideline camera was available (at least for the stream but I assume also for VAR). The technical difficulties with the broadcast following the power issues revealed something Apple and MLS need to take note of for the future: in such circumstances, the commentary crew needs to give play-by-play and verbal clues as to the time on the clock. I'd wager a good commentator like Costigan would have said who had the ball and how much time was left; these guys were hapless.
What this match made me realize is that our team cannot play 90 minutes. We are only capable of 45 minutes of decent footy, and it's something I'd been noticing all season--maybe not ever single match but for the majority of matches to be sure.
We are lucky that Schmetzer's decision to suspend Ruidiaz, in particular, did not end up being a "cutting off one's nose to spite their face" situation.
According to Schmetzer, Alex's substitution was because he was "rusty". Bringing Rothrock in and putting Cristian in the back at least gave the Sounders the energy and movement they needed to finally get some possession and create chances.
Kim and I were at the match. We saw the lights go on and off momentarily several times. It almost seemed to be on purpose, as only a few lights went off at a time. I had no idea it was affecting the broadcast. Guess I'm going to have to watch it on AppleTV now!
The post-match press conference was interesting. Schmetzer was spinning everything positive. But why do the Sounders play so poorly against bottom-dwelling teams? Agree with "Invincible" that RBW didn't make anyone miss Nouhou. It felt like he was playing scared and indecisively most of the time.
As for PDLV, it's hard to make an impact on a match when you haven't played seemingly in months. He's hardly had any playing time at all, and Schmetzer has said they still don't know how best to utilize him.
