Stolen from Zafiro:
Some of you are well versed in participating in forums and some of you are first timers. Last fall I solicited input on pointers for new visitors to the forum and received some good advice. Here are a few tips about our forum and how to get the most enjoyment out of it:
Don’t take yourself or anyone else too seriously - have fun.
Most action happens in the General Sounders FC Discussion. It is the only forum that some people visit but there can be good info in the other forums too. Take a look at the other forum headings to see if there is a better place for your thread.
We try to avoid having several threads about the same subject. Take a quick look to see if there is already a thread about what you wish to discuss. Looking at the first page of threads is usually good enough but if you have an issue that seems like it may have come up before - like grass vs turf, sitting vs standing, etc. use the search box.
Disagreeing with someone else’s opinion is a fundamental part of the forums. Ideally it will be a “respectful” exchange of opinions with each party explaining his or her position, going back and forth, others chiming in etc. Joking and tweaking happens all the time, just don’t descend down into name calling or personal attacks. We are all fans of the Sounders and all support the team in different ways.
Explaining and backing up your opinion is way more effective than repeating your opinion.
It’s okay to change your mind. It’s okay to apologize. It’s okay to edit or delete your post if you went overboard. Have a thick skin, let things go.
Threads are conversations and don’t have to have winners and losers...easy to walk off or re-join... some of the best wander far off-topic.
Yes this is America and we can say whatever we want but please have a modicum of respect for others. You can criticize the team, ownership, coach, Soundwave, beer prices or anything else as much as you want. However, we want all of the fans to feel comfortable here and believe that less profanity is better in this regard.
For some, this can be a challenge, but please give it a try - this is a great forum and you will find that the effort is worth it.
