I’m sure I’m not alone in this, but I have some things I really hope to see from a player personnel perspective this offseason. I want this to STAY related to players, don’t get on your horse or soapbox about front office or ownership…I don’t want to hear it and this isn’t the place 😂🤣
I’ll start by saying, I want to see us move on from both Alex Roldán, and Nouhou Tolo. I think that while Alex has some flashes of brilliance, he is not up to quality of a starting outside back in the modern MLS.
In regards to, Nouhou, his limitations are so apparent that other teams don’t even bother with him. If he were a CB we would be better off, but even then he only fits in a back 3/5 which it is very clear we will not be playing. His lack of discipline and control is extremely worrying. He should have grown out of things but he just hasn’t. Him yelling at other players is the pot calling the kettle black and I watched it happen more than once in last nights game.
I’d like to see Cristian Roldán moved back to the 8, and tell Vargas (or whoever replaces him, I think we lose him to a European team this winter) to sit in the 6 and “be Ozzie”.
That clearly opens up a wing spot, and I’m sure some of you would prefer Jordan there (or like, gone) and personally, I don’t want that. I’d like a “Mauro Rosales” style player there. Someone like Christian Espinoza from SJ.
I leave Rusnak at the 10, and keep Jordan at the 9, and I think we are clearly a better team like that moving forward.
I know that a lot of you don’t like Albert, but personally, I do. He’s sitting on 5 goals, 12 assists this season in league play, and that’s nothing to say about the non-stat related things. His work rate isn’t “prime Nico” for sure, but I don’t think it “needs to be”. We aren’t an “RB Pressing” or “gagenpressing” team.
And as for the elephant in the room, I think if Jordan is told “just be a damn forward, go score” then I think he’s going to be sufficient. Sure, he’s not Giroud or prime Wando, but I think that if he has proper service, he’s a 20 goal scorer in MLS. This means that unless Raul comes back on a (I would say) less than TAM contract, this season is his last as a Sounder. So at that point gimme a SOLID, PROVEN MLS goal scorer. And I know that Danny was supposed to be that guy, and his track record up to this season showed that he could do it, but something is not right there and I don’t know if he gets more than this season.
