For our penultimate match of the season, we travel to not-quite-mile-high Commerce City to take on the Rapids (elevation is 'just' 5,164 feet above sea level). COL are in 6th in the West with 50 points. We are up in 3rd, just two back from LAF in 2nd (but mathematically eliminated from reaching 1st). Remember how I assumed our great head-to-head record against HOU was probably one of the best in the league? I stand corrected in a big way. Our record against COL is ridiculously DOMINANT: 25W-5D-8L, and our last match at COL was a 2-1 victory back in September of 2023. Our previous meeting this season was a 1-1 draw back on 16 March (Ruidiaz netted our lone goal, and we conceded the equalizer very late).
COL will be looking to rebound from consecutive losses--the most recent being a 1-3 loss at home to LAG. Out of all of the teams that have clinched a playoff spot (so far), COL has the worst goal difference (+3) and have conceded the most goals (56, which is 22 more than we've given up), but they have scored ten more goals (59) than we have. Their top performers on offense have been Brazilian striker Rafael Navarro (14 goals, 5 assists), "homegrown" DP midfielder Djordje Mihailovic (11 goals, 14 assists), and homegrown midfielder Cole Bassett (9 goals, 7 assists)--but Bassett is out due to injury.
We have some positive momentum going with back-to-back wins and, as mentioned earlier, a history of victories. Every. Point. Matters.
