Are you ready for some real Monday Night Fútbol!
Exactly one month prior, we hosted Houston Dynamo, earning all three points from a 1-0 scoreline. HOU finished the season with the second-best defense in the league, conceding just 39 goals. We topped the league with a paltry 35 goals against. And HOU scored four fewer goals than us on the season (47 to our 51). To repeat what I said a month ago, on paper our clubs are pretty darn even. We are 12W-1D-1L against HOU going back to 2017, and, all-time head-to-head, we are 18-8-6. The big thing is HOU have still never won in Seattle? *knock on my right knee*
Pauly "Primetime" Rothrock scored the lone goal a month ago and, turns out, the dude has scored in every match he's played against Dynamo. With that kind of history and his performances this season, he has to start. Hopefully, JP can slot back in to his starting spot in the middle so C.Roldan can move back out to the right (and PDLV can sit back down on the bench). HOU's big players Herrera and Ponce both featured in their Decision Day victory at home over LAG, 2-1; Herrera had to be subbed right after halftime, but Ponce scored. Steres assisted and scored against his former club, earning an MLS Team of the Matchday selection.
I am feeling good about this match...playoff series. I actually feel excited. How are you all feeling? Who do you expect to start? What are your predictions?
